Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install dvgrab on Ubuntu.

What is dvgrab

dvgrab is:

dvgrab receives audio and video data from a digital camcorder via an IEEE1394 (widely known as FireWire) or USB link and stores them into one of several file formats. It features autosplit of long video sequences, and supports saving the data as raw frames, AVI type 1, AVI type 2, Quicktime DV, a series of JPEG stills or MPEG2-TS.

There are three methods to install dvgrab on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dvgrab Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dvgrab using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dvgrab

Install dvgrab Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dvgrab using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dvgrab

Install dvgrab Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dvgrab using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dvgrab

How To Uninstall dvgrab on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the dvgrab package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dvgrab

Uninstall dvgrab And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dvgrab and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dvgrab

Remove dvgrab Configurations and Data

To remove dvgrab configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dvgrab

Remove dvgrab configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove dvgrab configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dvgrab
