Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install docutils-common
on Ubuntu.
What is docutils-common
docutils-common is:
reStructuredText is an easy-to-read, what-you-see-is-what-you-get plaintext markup syntax and parser system. It is useful for in-line program documentation (such as Python docstrings), for quickly creating simple web pages, and for standalone documents.
The purpose of the Docutils project is to create a set of tools for processing reStructuredText documentation into useful formats, such as HTML, LaTeX, ODT or Unix manpages.
This package includes data and configuration files.
There are three methods to install docutils-common
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install docutils-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install docutils-common
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install docutils-common

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install docutils-common
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install docutils-common
Install docutils-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install docutils-common
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install docutils-common
How To Uninstall docutils-common on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the docutils-common
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove docutils-common
Uninstall docutils-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall docutils-common
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove docutils-common
Remove docutils-common Configurations and Data
To remove docutils-common
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge docutils-common
Remove docutils-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove docutils-common
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge docutils-common
