In this tutorial we learn how to install dns2tcp on Ubuntu.

What is dns2tcp

dns2tcp is:

dns2tcp is a set of tools to encapsulate a TCP session in DNS packets. This type of encapsulation generates smaller packets than IP-over-DNS, improving throughput. The client does not need root privileges.1

There are three methods to install dns2tcp on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dns2tcp Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dns2tcp using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dns2tcp

Install dns2tcp Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dns2tcp using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dns2tcp

Install dns2tcp Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dns2tcp using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dns2tcp

How To Uninstall dns2tcp on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the dns2tcp package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dns2tcp

Uninstall dns2tcp And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dns2tcp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dns2tcp

Remove dns2tcp Configurations and Data

To remove dns2tcp configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dns2tcp

We can use the following command to remove dns2tcp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
