Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ding on Ubuntu.

What is ding

ding is:

This is “Ding”

This package needs tre-agrep(1), agrep(1) or egrep(1) as a back end. (tre-)agrep is preferable, because it supports fault tolerant searching.

You have to install some translation dictionary word list with a word/phrase in two languages in one line with some kind of separator between them. The default configuration of ding uses the German-English dictionary which can be found in the trans-de-en package, but you can use every other translation word lists with one entry per line.

There are three methods to install ding on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ding Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ding using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ding

Install ding Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ding using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ding

Install ding Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ding using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ding

How To Uninstall ding on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ding package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ding

Uninstall ding And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ding and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ding

Remove ding Configurations and Data

To remove ding configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ding

Remove ding configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ding configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ding
