How To Install designate-api on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install designate-api on Ubuntu.

What is designate-api

designate-api is:

Designate provides DNSaaS services for OpenStack. It provides a multi-tenant REST API for domain & record management. It is Integrated with Keystone for authentication, and provides a framework in place to integrate with Nova and Neutron notifications (for auto-generated records). Designate supports PowerDNS and Bind9 out of the box.

This package provides the REST API server.

There are three methods to install designate-api on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install designate-api Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install designate-api using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install designate-api

Install designate-api Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install designate-api using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install designate-api

Install designate-api Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install designate-api using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install designate-api

How To Uninstall designate-api on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the designate-api package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove designate-api

Uninstall designate-api And Its Dependencies

To uninstall designate-api and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove designate-api

Remove designate-api Configurations and Data

To remove designate-api configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge designate-api

Remove designate-api configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove designate-api configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge designate-api
