In this tutorial we learn how to install daemon on Ubuntu.
What is daemon
daemon is:
There are many tasks that need to be performed to correctly set up a daemon process. This can be tedious. Daemon performs these tasks for other processes. This is useful for writing daemons in languages other than C, C++ or Perl (e.g. /bin/sh, Java).
There are three methods to install daemon on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install daemon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install daemon using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install daemon
Install daemon Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install daemon using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install daemon
Install daemon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install daemon using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install daemon
How To Uninstall daemon on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the daemon package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove daemon

To uninstall daemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove daemon
Remove daemon Configurations and Data
To remove daemon configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge daemon
