Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install cutter on Ubuntu.

What is cutter

cutter is:

Cutter will send packets to both ends of a TCP/IP connection to close the connection. It is designed to be used on a Linux router to disconnect unwanted connections.

Cutter can close all connections to or from a specified ip-address or ip-address/port pair, allowing, as example, close the specific service of a computer. It also can close the connections between two ip-address that use a specific port to deny a certain service to client. Other possibility is close a specific connection from ip-address/port to ip-address/port.

Cutter is not a firewall, but is part of a larger Linux firewall project.

Cutter 1.04 should be considered EXPERIMENTAL.

There are three methods to install cutter on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cutter Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cutter using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cutter

Install cutter Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cutter using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cutter

Install cutter Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cutter using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cutter

How To Uninstall cutter on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the cutter package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove cutter

Uninstall cutter And Its Dependencies

To uninstall cutter and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cutter

Remove cutter Configurations and Data

To remove cutter configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cutter

Remove cutter configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove cutter configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cutter
