What is cups-client
cups-client is:
The Common UNIX Printing System (or CUPS(tm)) is a printing system and general replacement for lpd and the like. It supports the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), and has its own filtering driver model for handling various document types.
This package provides the System V style print client programs.
There are three methods to install cups-client on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cups-client Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cups-client using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cups-client

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cups-client using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cups-client
Install cups-client Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cups-client using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cups-client
How To Uninstall cups-client on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the cups-client package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cups-client

To uninstall cups-client and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cups-client
Remove cups-client Configurations and Data
To remove cups-client configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cups-client
