In this tutorial we learn how to install crimson-osd
on Ubuntu.
What is crimson-osd
crimson-osd is:
Ceph is a massively scalable, open-source, distributed storage system that runs on commodity hardware and delivers object, block and file system storage.
Crimson is a re-implementation of the ceph-osd daemon using a more platform aware and scalable software architecture (seastar).
This package contains the Crimson Object Storage Daemon for the Ceph storage system. It is responsible for storing objects on a local file system and providing access to them over the network.
There are three methods to install crimson-osd
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install crimson-osd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install crimson-osd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install crimson-osd

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install crimson-osd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install crimson-osd
Install crimson-osd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install crimson-osd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install crimson-osd
How To Uninstall crimson-osd on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the crimson-osd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove crimson-osd
Uninstall crimson-osd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall crimson-osd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove crimson-osd
Remove crimson-osd Configurations and Data
To remove crimson-osd
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge crimson-osd
Remove crimson-osd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
