In this tutorial we learn how to install createrepo-c on Ubuntu.

What is createrepo-c

createrepo-c is:

The createrepo_c tool generates the repodata directory and XML metadata that makes up a repository of RPM packages. This repository format is supported by apt-rpm, red-carpet(zen), smartpm, up2date, yast, and yum.

This package is similar to the apt-ftparchive or reprepro commands, but for working with RPM repositories.

There are three methods to install createrepo-c on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install createrepo-c Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install createrepo-c using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install createrepo-c

Install createrepo-c Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install createrepo-c using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install createrepo-c

Install createrepo-c Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install createrepo-c using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install createrepo-c

How To Uninstall createrepo-c on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the createrepo-c package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove createrepo-c

Uninstall createrepo-c And Its Dependencies

To uninstall createrepo-c and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove createrepo-c

Remove createrepo-c Configurations and Data

To remove createrepo-c configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge createrepo-c

Remove createrepo-c configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove createrepo-c configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge createrepo-c
