In this tutorial we learn how to install ceph-volume
on Ubuntu.
What is ceph-volume
ceph-volume is:
Ceph is a massively scalable, open-source, distributed storage system that runs on commodity hardware and delivers object, block and file system storage.
This package contains a tool to deploy OSD with different devices like lvm or physical disks, and trying to follow a predictable, and robust way of preparing, activating, and starting the deployed OSD.
There are three methods to install ceph-volume
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ceph-volume Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ceph-volume
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ceph-volume
Install ceph-volume Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ceph-volume
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ceph-volume
Install ceph-volume Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ceph-volume
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ceph-volume
How To Uninstall ceph-volume on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ceph-volume
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ceph-volume
Uninstall ceph-volume And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ceph-volume
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ceph-volume
Remove ceph-volume Configurations and Data
To remove ceph-volume
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ceph-volume
Remove ceph-volume configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ceph-volume
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ceph-volume
