How To Install casacore-tools on Ubuntu

Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install casacore-tools on Ubuntu.
What is casacore-tools
casacore-tools is:
The casacore package contains the core libraries of the old AIPS++/CASA (Common Astronomy Software Applications) package. This split was made to get a better separation of core libraries and applications.
This package contains the tools built with CASA core:
- taql - query language for casacore tables
- measuresdata - create data tables for measures
- imageregrid, imagecalc, showtable, showtablelock, findmeastable, fits2table, imreorder, casahdf5support, msselect, image2fits, imageslice, etc.
There are three methods to install casacore-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install casacore-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install casacore-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install casacore-tools
Install casacore-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install casacore-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install casacore-tools
Install casacore-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install casacore-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install casacore-tools
How To Uninstall casacore-tools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the casacore-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove casacore-tools
Uninstall casacore-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall casacore-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove casacore-tools
Remove casacore-tools Configurations and Data
To remove casacore-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge casacore-tools
Remove casacore-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove casacore-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge casacore-tools
