Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install carla-dev on Ubuntu.

What is carla-dev

carla-dev is:

Carla is an audio plugin host, with support for many audio drivers and plugin formats. It has some nice features like automation of parameters via MIDI CC and full OSC control. Currently supports LADSPA, DSSI, LV2, VST2/3 and AU plugin formats, plus SF2 and SFZ sounds banks.

This package contains the development libraries.

There are three methods to install carla-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install carla-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install carla-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install carla-dev

Install carla-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install carla-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install carla-dev

Install carla-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install carla-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install carla-dev

How To Uninstall carla-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the carla-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove carla-dev

Uninstall carla-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall carla-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove carla-dev

Remove carla-dev Configurations and Data

To remove carla-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge carla-dev

Remove carla-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove carla-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge carla-dev
