In this tutorial we learn how to install cage on Ubuntu.

What is cage

cage is:

Cage is a kiosk compositor for Wayland. A kiosk is a window manager (in the X11 world) or compositor (in the Wayland world) that is designed for a user experience wherein user interaction and activities outside the scope of the running application are prevented. That is, a kiosk compositor displays a single maximized application at a time and prevents the user from interacting with anything but this application.

There are three methods to install cage on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cage Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cage using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cage

Install cage Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cage using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cage

Install cage Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cage using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cage

How To Uninstall cage on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the cage package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove cage

Uninstall cage And Its Dependencies

To uninstall cage and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cage

Remove cage Configurations and Data

To remove cage configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cage

Remove cage configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove cage configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cage
