In this tutorial we learn how to install brandy on Ubuntu.
What is brandy
brandy is:
Matrix Brandy is an interpreter for BBC BASIC. It is source code compatible with the BASIC VI interpreter in RISC OS.
BBC BASIC VI is the 64-bit floating-point version of BASIC that came with the Acorn RISC OS machines, itself a development of the version of BASIC on the BBC Micro. Matrix Brandy aims to be source code compatible with this, including some extensions found in the RISC PC versions and the later RISC OS 5 as made available for several systems including the Raspberry Pi.
There are three methods to install brandy on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install brandy Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install brandy using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install brandy

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install brandy using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall brandy on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the brandy package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove brandy

To uninstall brandy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove brandy
Remove brandy Configurations and Data
To remove brandy configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge brandy
