In this tutorial we learn how to install bpfcc-tools on Ubuntu.

What is bpfcc-tools

bpfcc-tools is:

BPF Compiler Collection (BCC) is a toolkit for creating efficient kernel tracing and manipulation programs

It makes use of extended BPF (Berkeley Package Filter) and provides tools for BPF based Linux IO analysis, networking, monitoring and more

This package provides the command-line tools and examples

There are three methods to install bpfcc-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install bpfcc-tools Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install bpfcc-tools using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install bpfcc-tools

Install bpfcc-tools Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install bpfcc-tools using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install bpfcc-tools

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install bpfcc-tools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install bpfcc-tools

How To Uninstall bpfcc-tools on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the bpfcc-tools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove bpfcc-tools

Uninstall bpfcc-tools And Its Dependencies

To uninstall bpfcc-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove bpfcc-tools

Remove bpfcc-tools Configurations and Data

To remove bpfcc-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge bpfcc-tools

Remove bpfcc-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove bpfcc-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bpfcc-tools
