In this tutorial we learn how to install bochs on Ubuntu.

What is `bochs`

bochs is:

Bochs is a highly portable free IA-32 (x86) PC emulator written in C++, that runs on most popular platforms. It includes emulation of the Intel x86 CPU, common I/O devices, and a custom BIOS.

Bochs is capable of running most operating systems inside the emulation including GNU, GNU/Linux, *BSD, FreeDOS, MSDOS and Windows 95/NT.

There are three methods to install bochs on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install bochs Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install bochs using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install bochs

Install bochs Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install bochs using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install bochs

Install bochs Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install bochs using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install bochs

How To Uninstall bochs on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the bochs package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove bochs

Uninstall bochs And Its Dependencies

To uninstall bochs and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove bochs

Remove bochs Configurations and Data

To remove bochs configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge bochs
