How To Install biosyntax-vim on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install biosyntax-vim on Ubuntu.

What is biosyntax-vim

biosyntax-vim is:

Syntax highlighting for computational biology to bring you intuitively close to your data. BioSyntax supports .sam, .flagstat, .vcf, .fasta, .fastq, .faidx , .clustal, .pdb, .gtf, .bed files & more.

This package provides the bioSyntax plugin for vim.

Please note: The plugin is not enabled per default, to enable it, please read: /usr/share/doc/biosyntax-vim/README.Debian

There are three methods to install biosyntax-vim on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install biosyntax-vim Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax-vim using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install biosyntax-vim

Install biosyntax-vim Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax-vim using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install biosyntax-vim

Install biosyntax-vim Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax-vim using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install biosyntax-vim

How To Uninstall biosyntax-vim on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the biosyntax-vim package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove biosyntax-vim

Uninstall biosyntax-vim And Its Dependencies

To uninstall biosyntax-vim and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove biosyntax-vim

Remove biosyntax-vim Configurations and Data

To remove biosyntax-vim configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge biosyntax-vim

Remove biosyntax-vim configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove biosyntax-vim configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge biosyntax-vim
