How To Install biosyntax on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install biosyntax on Ubuntu.

What is biosyntax

biosyntax is:

Syntax highlighting for computational biology to bring you intuitively close to your data. BioSyntax supports .sam, .flagstat, .vcf, .fasta, .fastq, .faidx , .clustal, .pdb, .gtf, .bed files & more.

This is a metapackage depending on all bioSyntax plugins.

There are three methods to install biosyntax on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install biosyntax Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install biosyntax

Install biosyntax Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install biosyntax

Install biosyntax Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install biosyntax using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install biosyntax

How To Uninstall biosyntax on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the biosyntax package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove biosyntax

Uninstall biosyntax And Its Dependencies

To uninstall biosyntax and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove biosyntax

Remove biosyntax Configurations and Data

To remove biosyntax configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge biosyntax

Remove biosyntax configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove biosyntax configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge biosyntax
