In this tutorial we learn how to install bioperl on Ubuntu.
What is bioperl
bioperl is:
The Bioperl project is a coordinated effort to collect computational methods routinely used in bioinformatics into a set of standard CPAN-style, well-documented, and freely available Perl modules. It is well-accepted throughout the community and used in many high-profile projects, e.g., Ensembl.
The recommended packages are needed to run some of the included binaries, for a detailed explanation including the specific Perl modules please see README.Debian.
The suggested package enhances the manual pages.
There are three methods to install bioperl on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bioperl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install bioperl using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bioperl
Install bioperl Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install bioperl using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install bioperl
Install bioperl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
