How To Install baresip-core on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install baresip-core on Ubuntu.

What is baresip-core

baresip-core is:

A modular SIP user-agent with support for audio and video, and many IETF standards such as SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, STUN, TURN, ICE, and WebRTC.

Supports both IPv4 and IPv6, and the following features.

Some of above features are provided in separate packages baresip-gtk, baresip-ffmpeg, baresip-gstreamer and baresip-x11.

There are three methods to install baresip-core on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install baresip-core Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install baresip-core using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install baresip-core

Install baresip-core Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install baresip-core using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install baresip-core

Install baresip-core Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install baresip-core using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install baresip-core

How To Uninstall baresip-core on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the baresip-core package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove baresip-core

Uninstall baresip-core And Its Dependencies

To uninstall baresip-core and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove baresip-core

Remove baresip-core Configurations and Data

To remove baresip-core configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge baresip-core

Remove baresip-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove baresip-core configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge baresip-core
