In this tutorial we learn how to install atmel-firmware on Ubuntu.

What is atmel-firmware

atmel-firmware is:

The drivers for these chips in the Linux kernel do not include the firmware; this firmware needs to be loaded by the host on most cards using these chips. This package provides the firmware images which should be automatically loaded as needed by the hotplug system. It also provides a small loader utility which can be used to accomplish the same thing when hotplug is not in use.

There are three methods to install atmel-firmware on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install atmel-firmware Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install atmel-firmware using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install atmel-firmware

Install atmel-firmware Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install atmel-firmware using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install atmel-firmware

Install atmel-firmware Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install atmel-firmware using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install atmel-firmware

How To Uninstall atmel-firmware on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the atmel-firmware package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove atmel-firmware

Uninstall atmel-firmware And Its Dependencies

To uninstall atmel-firmware and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove atmel-firmware

Remove atmel-firmware Configurations and Data

To remove atmel-firmware configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge atmel-firmware

Remove atmel-firmware configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove atmel-firmware configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge atmel-firmware
