Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install asciidoc-base
on Ubuntu.
What is asciidoc-base
asciidoc-base is:
AsciiDoc is a text document format for writing articles, books, manuals and UNIX man pages. AsciiDoc files can be translated to HTML (with or without stylesheets), DocBook (articles, books and refentry documents) and LinuxDoc using the asciidoc command. AsciiDoc can also be used to build and maintain websites.
You write an AsciiDoc document the same way you would write a normal text document, there are no markup tags or weird format notations. AsciiDoc files are designed to be viewed, edited and printed directly or translated to other presentation formats
This package provides binary files for the package. Be careful, you won’t be able to build pdf files without the dblatex or fop dependencies. See asciidoc-dblatex or asciidoc-fop metapackages for this.
There are three methods to install asciidoc-base
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install asciidoc-base Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-base
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install asciidoc-base
Install asciidoc-base Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-base
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install asciidoc-base
Install asciidoc-base Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-base
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install asciidoc-base
How To Uninstall asciidoc-base on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the asciidoc-base
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove asciidoc-base
Uninstall asciidoc-base And Its Dependencies
To uninstall asciidoc-base
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove asciidoc-base
Remove asciidoc-base Configurations and Data
To remove asciidoc-base
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge asciidoc-base
Remove asciidoc-base configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove asciidoc-base
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge asciidoc-base
