Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install argus-server
on Ubuntu.
What is argus-server
argus-server is:
argus is a network transaction auditing tool that allows the user to easily classify connections using tcpdump(1) compliant expressions. Argus runs as an application level daemon, promiscuously reading network datagrams from a specified interface, and generates network traffic audit records for the network activity that it encounters. Auditing records can be used to ensure that access control policies are being enforced, identify network problems such as denial of service attacks and more.
This package contains the binaries required for the argus server. Please see the package argus-client for appropriate clients.
There are three methods to install argus-server
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install argus-server Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install argus-server
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install argus-server
Install argus-server Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install argus-server
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install argus-server
Install argus-server Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install argus-server
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install argus-server
How To Uninstall argus-server on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the argus-server
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove argus-server
Uninstall argus-server And Its Dependencies
To uninstall argus-server
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove argus-server
Remove argus-server Configurations and Data
To remove argus-server
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge argus-server
