Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install arb
on Ubuntu.
What is arb
arb is:
ARB is a graphical suite of tools for sequence database handling and data analysis. A central database of processed (aligned) sequences and any type of additional data linked to the sequence entries is structured according to phylogeny or other user-defined criteria.
The ARB project (from the Latin “arbor”, a tree) is a joint initiative of the Lehrstuhl für Mikrobiologie and the LRR of the Technische Universität München in 1992. Since 2014 the ARB project is continued by the Department of Molecular Ecology http://www.mpi-bremen.de/en/Department_of_Molecular_Ecology.html at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen in cooperation with Ribocon GmbH http://www.ribocon.com .
There are three methods to install arb
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install arb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install arb
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install arb
Install arb Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install arb
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install arb
Install arb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install arb
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install arb
How To Uninstall arb on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the arb
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove arb
Uninstall arb And Its Dependencies
To uninstall arb
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove arb
Remove arb Configurations and Data
To remove arb
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge arb
Remove arb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove arb
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge arb
