How To Install aptdaemon on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install aptdaemon on Ubuntu.

What is aptdaemon

aptdaemon is:

Aptdaemon allows normal users to perform package management tasks, e.g. refreshing the cache, upgrading the system, installing or removing software packages.

Currently it comes with the following main features:

This package contains the aptd script and all the data files required to run the daemon. Moreover it contains the aptdcon script, which is a command line client for aptdaemon. The API is not stable yet.

There are three methods to install aptdaemon on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install aptdaemon Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install aptdaemon using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install aptdaemon

Install aptdaemon Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install aptdaemon using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install aptdaemon

Install aptdaemon Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install aptdaemon using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install aptdaemon

How To Uninstall aptdaemon on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the aptdaemon package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove aptdaemon

Uninstall aptdaemon And Its Dependencies

To uninstall aptdaemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove aptdaemon

Remove aptdaemon Configurations and Data

To remove aptdaemon configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge aptdaemon

Remove aptdaemon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove aptdaemon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge aptdaemon
