Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install apport-retrace
on Ubuntu.
What is apport-retrace
apport-retrace is:
apport-retrace recombines an Apport crash report (either a file or a Launchpad bug) and debug symbol packages (.ddebs) into fully symbolic stack traces. This can optionally use a sandbox for installing debug symbol packages and doing the processing, so that entire process of retracing crashes can happen with normal user privileges without changing the system.
You need to install gdb-multiarch if you want to be able to retrace crash reports which happened on a different architecture than the one you run apport-retrace on.
There are three methods to install apport-retrace
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apport-retrace Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apport-retrace
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apport-retrace
Install apport-retrace Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apport-retrace
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apport-retrace
Install apport-retrace Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apport-retrace
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apport-retrace
How To Uninstall apport-retrace on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the apport-retrace
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apport-retrace
Uninstall apport-retrace And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apport-retrace
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apport-retrace
Remove apport-retrace Configurations and Data
To remove apport-retrace
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apport-retrace
Remove apport-retrace configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apport-retrace
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apport-retrace
