What is apfs-dkms
apfs-dkms is:
The Apple File System (APFS) is the copy-on-write filesystem currently used on all Apple devices. This module provides a degree of experimental support on Linux.
It’s supposed to work with a range of kernel versions starting at 4.9 or before, but only a few of those have actually been tested.
There are three methods to install apfs-dkms
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apfs-dkms Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apfs-dkms
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apfs-dkms

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apfs-dkms
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apfs-dkms
Install apfs-dkms Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apfs-dkms
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apfs-dkms
How To Uninstall apfs-dkms on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the apfs-dkms
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apfs-dkms
Uninstall apfs-dkms And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apfs-dkms
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apfs-dkms

configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apfs-dkms
