Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install amazon-ec2-utils
on Ubuntu.
What is amazon-ec2-utils
amazon-ec2-utils is:
amazon-ec2-utils contains a set of utilities and settings for Linux deployments in EC2.
It includes:
- ec2-metadata - Use to retrieve EC2 instance metadata from within a running EC2 instance
- ebsnvme-id - Read EBS device information and provide information about the volume.
- Various udev rules to ensure consistent device naming.
There are three methods to install amazon-ec2-utils
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install amazon-ec2-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install amazon-ec2-utils
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install amazon-ec2-utils
Install amazon-ec2-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install amazon-ec2-utils
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install amazon-ec2-utils
Install amazon-ec2-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install amazon-ec2-utils
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install amazon-ec2-utils
How To Uninstall amazon-ec2-utils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the amazon-ec2-utils
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove amazon-ec2-utils
Uninstall amazon-ec2-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall amazon-ec2-utils
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove amazon-ec2-utils
Remove amazon-ec2-utils Configurations and Data
To remove amazon-ec2-utils
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge amazon-ec2-utils
Remove amazon-ec2-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove amazon-ec2-utils
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge amazon-ec2-utils
