In this tutorial we learn how to install adapterremoval on Ubuntu.

What is adapterremoval

adapterremoval is:

This program searches for and removes remnant adapter sequences from High- Throughput Sequencing (HTS) data and (optionally) trims low quality bases from the 3’ end of reads following adapter removal. AdapterRemoval can analyze both single end and paired end data, and can be used to merge overlapping paired-ended reads into (longer) consensus sequences. Additionally, the AdapterRemoval may be used to recover a consensus adapter sequence for paired-ended data, for which this information is not available.

There are three methods to install adapterremoval on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install adapterremoval Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install adapterremoval using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install adapterremoval

Install adapterremoval Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install adapterremoval using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install adapterremoval

Install adapterremoval Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install adapterremoval using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install adapterremoval

To uninstall only the adapterremoval package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove adapterremoval

To uninstall adapterremoval and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove adapterremoval

To remove adapterremoval configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge adapterremoval
