How To Install ableton-link-dev on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ableton-link-dev on Ubuntu.

ableton-link-dev is:

Ableton Link, a technology that synchronizes musical beat, tempo, and phase across multiple applications running on one or more devices. Applications on devices connected to a local network discover each other automatically and form a musical session in which each participant can perform independently: anyone can start or stop while still staying in time. Anyone can change the tempo, the others will follow. Anyone can join or leave without disrupting the session.

Ableton Link is implemented as a header-only C++-library. This package contains the development files.

There are three methods to install ableton-link-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ableton-link-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ableton-link-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ableton-link-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ableton-link-dev

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ableton-link-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ableton-link-dev

To uninstall only the ableton-link-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ableton-link-dev

To uninstall ableton-link-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ableton-link-dev

To remove ableton-link-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ableton-link-dev

We can use the following command to remove ableton-link-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ableton-link-dev
