Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install abcde on Ubuntu.
What is abcde
abcde is:
frontend program to cdparanoia, wget, cd-discid, id3, and your favorite Ogg/Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, Ogg/Speex, M4A, Opus, WavPack, Monkey’s Audio (ape), MPP/MP+(Musepack) and/or AIFF format encoder (defaults to oggenc). Grabs an entire CD and converts each track to the specified formats and then comments or tags each file, with one command.
With abcde you can encode several formats with one single command, using a single CD read operation. It also allows you to read and encode while not on the internet, and later query a CDDB or Musicbrainz server to lookup metadata and tag your files.
There are three methods to install abcde on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install abcde Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install abcde using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install abcde
Install abcde Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install abcde using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install abcde
Install abcde Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install abcde using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install abcde
How To Uninstall abcde on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the abcde package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove abcde
Uninstall abcde And Its Dependencies
To uninstall abcde and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove abcde
Remove abcde Configurations and Data
To remove abcde configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge abcde
Remove abcde configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove abcde configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge abcde
